Volkswagen wanted to incorporate the German tradition of extraordinary performance in past World Cup games into its commercials. Volkswagen’s agency, Grabarz & Partner, enlisted GreenLight to secure worldwide clearances for the likenesses, signatures, and voices of iconic German football players Rudolf Völler, Paul Breitner, and Fritz Walter. The campaign, which ran for three months, proved so successful that GreenLight was tasked with securing further clearances for the three football greats for additional pregame TV trailers.
