The answer is yes. What was the question?
At GreenLight, we don’t like the word “no.” “No” annoys us. In fact, we barely even know what “no” means. We’re in the business of removing obstacles, reducing hassles and untying tricky rights knots so that any idea you come up with can become a reality.
So go ahead and dream. We’ll help make it happen.

Hallmark
Musical Greeting Cards
250 songs cleared in just 5 weeks. 1,000 additional songs cleared.
What do you get when you add music to a greeting card? First, a revolutionary new entry into the market. Second, a logistical nightmare.
When Hallmark decided to incorporate original recordings into their cards, securing the rights to those songs proved to be a monumental task and, really, no fun at all.
Well-versed in the intricacies of their business, GreenLight managed to clear over 250 songs in 5 weeks and obtained the rights to more than 1,000 other recordings for Hallmark.
The end result? Business is booming and greeting card executives all over America are, once again, sleeping well at night. Sounds sweet, right?
goodby
Goodby, Silverstein and Partners
Comcast
Host, guest star and contestant image rights, guild negotiations.
Old game shows never die, they just wait to be exhumed. And then the fun begins.
When Comcast and their ad agency, Goodby, Silverstein and Partners decided that the $20,000 Pyramid, an American game show classic, was just the ticket to set themselves apart in a competitive marketplace, it opened a Pandora's box of rights issues.
Rights to the show, contacting the host, guest star and contestant for approval, guild negotiations ... the list of obstacles went on and on. Let's not forget the clip Comcast wanted to use last aired over 30 years ago.
GreenLight was up to the challenge, though, and in record time cleared up every last usage issue. Jackpot!
ballantines
Ballantine's Scotch Whiskey
European print and internet campaign
Rights to images of icons Steve McQueen and John McEnroe.
Steve McQueen, John McEnroe and Ballantine's Scotch Whiskey. What better blend to get Europe's beverage of choice into the glasses of the thirsty masses in Spain and Portugal?
But then the pounding headache of negotiating and licensing set in and Ballantine's called in GreenLight to ease the pain.
GreenLight deftly secured the rights to the images of these whiskey loving icons and their symbols and smoothed the way for an evocative print and internet campaign.
screenlife
Screenlife
Scene it? Games
Rights to film clips and stills from over 30 Italian, French and Spanish titles.
Screenlife- Makers of the "Scene It?" Brand of Games
In order to grow and internationalize their wildly successful "Scene It?" brand of DVD games, Screenlife Games came to GreenLight to acquire difficult to license European film content.
Our multi lingual Rights Clearance teams used their international savoir faire to negotiate with talent and film studios in France, Spain and Italy and licensed content deals for several versions of Screenlife's language specific movie games, including for the new downloadable XBox format.
More than 30 titles were licensed including Deux Frres (Two Brothers), La Haine (Hate), Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), Los Otros (The Others), and Mar Adentro (The Sea inside). From negotiating with rights holders in their own language to closing benchmark setting deals, GreenLight delivered on time and on budget, with nothing lost in translation. How do you say "completely and utterly brilliant" in French?
element 79
Element 79, Chicago
American Family Insurance
Studio copyrights and inspiration rights for three classic TV shows.
In creating an integrated print, radio, TV, and online campaign for American Family Insurance, ad agency Element 79, based in Chicago, wanted to include iconic American pop culture references. One big catch was that they were on a tight timeline and it was the holiday season. Element 79 turned to GreenLight to clear the use of clips from the popular TV shows Green Acres, The Munsters, and The Brady Bunch. With its unrivaled rolodex of Hollywood contacts, GreenLight cleared the required rights in just three days, allowing Element 79 to present a winning ad.
hasbro
Hasbro
An updated, global edition of the classic Trivial Pursuit.
Hundreds of TV, film, music and celebrity clearances.
If you can imagine, even the most trivial of pursuits lose their relevance after a while.
Trivial Pursuit – the iconic board game by Hasbro – has been breaking sales records forever. But time passes, the world changes, and suddenly it seemed a good idea to refresh the trivia questions and step up the offering with a DVD version of the classic game.
Hasbro was faced with the daunting task of securing multiple pieces of premium media content from hundreds of resources. And, because the game was targeted towards overseas markets, the content had to be geographically relevant to EMEA, Australia and Asia. Thanks to their global presence and strong studio and talent agency relationships, GreenLight negotiated and acquired hundreds of licenses spanning TV, film, music and celebrity personas in record time.
Apparently our work was a winner. Hasbro’s DVD version of Trivial Pursuit became an instant hit and shifted the board game classic into the brave new world of interactive board games.
matsushita
Matsushita Electronics
Matsushita Electronics
Rights usage for images of Ukrainian gymnast Anna Bessonova.
It may only have been a single famous face, but it needed to go everywhere.
Japanese electronic giant Matsushita, a company that makes products including brand names Panasonic and Technics, decided Ukranian gymnast Anna Bessanova was just the celebrity to put the spring into their new advertising campaign. The catch was they needed to secure the rights to her image for use on television and satellite commercials, at cinemas, on outdoor event screens, in print advertising and just about any other media outlet imaginable.
GreenLight into action and before you say “double back handspring with a twist,” had cleared the rights to her image for up to a year. That’s a gold medal performance!
dresdner
Dresdner Bank
Dresdner Bank
Rights for images of Jimi Hendrix, Albert Einstein, and more.
Why do deceased icons have to be so difficult?
Dresdner Kleinwort, a European bank of distinction, wanted to brush the dust off and freshen up their image a bit. Their advertising partner thought of pairing disparate icons – famous for completely different reasons – to show how their bank can help a wide array of personalities to achieve their financial goals. But who could clear Marilyn Monroe and Jimi Hendrix?
GreenLight broke out the Ouija board, contacted the gatekeepers of these estates, and cleared not only Monroe and Hendrix but Albert Einstein and Maria Callas as well just for kicks.
The print ads – which paired the two duos in the back of a cab and on a couch – were stunning, provocative and made the point quite nicely, thank you very much, that Dresdner Kleinwort was anything but a stuffy bank.

Natixis Asset Management
Rights to images of famous architectural landmarks for an advertising campaign.
One presumes, when having something tailor-made, that it will take a bit of time. Unless, of course, you are an advertising agency with a big time client who's got no time to waste.
Natixis Asset Management, a European investment management firm, and their agency decided that they wanted to draw a parallel between their bespoke financial products and high-end design and architecture. They had big ambitions, high expectations, a long list of images they wanted to use and, as always, very tight deadlines.
GreenLight moved in at breakneck speed, identified the rights holders (no simple task) and cleared the way for use of images of famous structures such as I.M. Pei's glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris, Frank Gehry's :Dancing" building in Prague and many others too numerous to count and too exhausting to even think about. We all needed a nap after this one.
ddb
DDB
Nike
Rights to inspirational sports clips and images.
When Nike and their advertising agency, DDB France, decided to incorporate inspiring moments from sporting events around the world into their TV, internet and PR campaigns, they figured that it wouldn’t be too hard to, well, just do it.
Not so fast. The issues of research and licensing surfaced and GreenLight was called in to get the project out of the blocks.
Negotiations ensued with Premier League, Wimbledon, the Augusta Masters golf tournament and others to choose the right clips and guarantee there were no licensing false starts. The resulting advertising was historically significant, inspirational and thoroughly cleared for take-off.
holcim
Holcim
Rights to the song "Que Sera, Sera"
Acquired publishing rights to use song as background music for a commercial.
What do a cement company and obtaining the rights to use a classic tune have in common? It's all about being hard.
When Holcim, one of the world's leading suppliers of cement and aggregates decided that the classic "Que Sera, Sera" was just the background music to set the tune for a commercial to run on Indonesian television, they turned to GreenLight to lay the foundation.
In record time, our team of experts contacted the rights holders to the Raymond B. Evans song and cleared the song for use. Soon, that old time favorite was on air in homes from Jakarta to Subang.

Why GreenLight?
Overview
GreenLight conducts hundreds of clearances for corporations and for advertising uses and campaigns every year. From one-off print ads and commercials, to full-blown campaigns with multiple layers of clearances, we've done it all.
We operate at all levels, from major advertising agencies to smaller agencies and design firms. We clear celebrity talent, and locate and clear little known persons or their estates. We clear hit music tracks and feature films for use in commercials and products. We clear all types of intellectual and real properties, copyrighted and trademarked properties.
We are experts at resolving the legal and logistical hassles our clients are wrestling with, relieving them of stress and saving both time and money. We have patience so you don't have to.

Film & TV
You have to have worked inside the entertainment beast for a while to understand how the wheels of that industry mesh. We have people who put in their time at the Hollywood studios, talent agencies and other media outlets and who can navigate the shallows and rapids of rights clearance for the clips you want and need to best express your idea.
Music
Some of our people have worked for years at Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, Disney Music Group and many others. They love their i-pods as much as the next guy (maybe more), understand the intricacies of music rights, and know full well just how critical a specific song can be to making your project rock.
Talent
We're sensitive to the personalities involved when working with celebrities and talent. Over the years, we've established strong working relationships with all major rights holders, including, but not limited to, the major movie studios, record labels, publishers, talent, and entertainment agencies.
Estates
We believe in reincarnation. But we also know the rights to a dead celebrity's image can be incredibly hard and expensive to come by. We have close contacts with the gatekeepers to many of the most desirable and commercially viable estates and have had great success in getting famous names like Steve McQueen or Albert Einstein to put in an appearance from the beyond.
Take a closer look.

Top reasons to work with us:
1. We back up our work with an indemnified rights license.
2. We're smart about money and can advise on a budget.
3. We can scope out potential rights issues land-mines before someone gets hurt.
4. We can help with a "Plan B" back up.
5. We know how to talk to dead people and famous living people in Japanese,
Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Polish, and Gudjurati.
6. We are almost superhumanly patient, a necessary trait when navigating
the maddening intricacies of rights clearances.
7. GreenLight RMC has 30 clearance experts worldwide, with offices in
NY, LA, London and Asia.
Properties
This is one of our favorite categories, mainly because it is so completely inane that it causes great merriment in our offices. If the London Eye, Barbie, a Fender Guitar, an Eames Lounge Chair or the Empire State Building are going to turn up in your print ad or commercial, you need someone's permission. Also, did you know that you need a license to use an image of the Eiffel Tower illuminated at night, but that a daytime shot is free and clear? How random is that? Who else but GreenLight knows this sort of stuff? We live for rights clearance trivia!

They help us navigate unfamiliar waters, avoid roadblocks and unnecessary risks.
Teddi Hernandez
Licensing director at Hallmark
Navigating the French and Spanish versions of the game was a new challenge for us as we worked with studios and labels outside North America. The strong relationships that GreenLight has with entertainment companies and rights holders worldwide helped expedite the licensing process.
Charles Harper
VP, Business Development at Screenlife
GreenLight helped elevate our ad to a whole new level by helping to find and secure just the right people to communicate our message. They handle more than 5,000 clearances a year, we knew they’d be the right partner as BC Hydro tries to start a social movement towards energy efficiency.
Lynn Bonham
Broadcast Producer, DDB Canada
GreenLight was a true partner in helping us negotiate rights and clearances for a high-profile, global Ballantine's whisky campaign. Their insight into negotiation strategy with well-known celebrities was instrumental in securing the deals and helping us deliver a top-notch advertising campaign. I would highly recommend working with GreenLight for all third party rights clearance projects.
Stacy Koetsier
Client Director at Publicis UK
Our trivia games are filled with movie clips, songs, and all sorts of photographs from historical images all the way up to current celebrities. Working closely with GreenLight made everything simpler; they were able get the iconic content we asked for, as well as come back with more and better options we didn't even know about. Our writers took the new media and ran with it, and together we made a great game.
Ethan Shaftel
ODVD Games
GreenLight was instrumental in handling publicity rights clearances for many of the artists represented in U2's video...Without our close partnership with GreenLight, the video would have been impossible to produce on schedule.
Jeff Estow
Director of Business Affairs, Modernista!
We approached GreenLight because of their established, trusted reputation and global resources. Working with GreenLight ensured that we were able to secure all the third party rights we needed in the timeframe we needed them. They were a true creative partner and delivered flawlessly without skipping a beat.
Daphne Ng
Executive Producer, JWT Singapore
During the preproduction phase, GreenLight was extremely valuable to us in obtaining the licensing rights to our iconic American Families. As we moved through production, our broadcast, online and print work was cleared quickly, thanks largely to GreenLight's relationships with the studios.
